Jr Indian spikers two wins away from Asian title

Chennai, Sep 18 (UNI) The India were on a song in the Asian Junior Men's Volleyball championship at Teheran in Iran being just two wins away from winning the title.

India today topped the group by winning its last quarter final league match defeating Australia 3-1 and qualified for the four-team final round league.

Playing like a well-knit team excelling both in offence and defence, India overcame the second set loss to score a 25-15, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21 win and top the group.

Earlier, in a late last night match, India beat Japan 26-28, 25-21, 27-25, 25-22, according to information received by the Volleyball Federation of India(VFI) here.

India would be joined by either Japan or Korea in the final round league from this group, while chances were bright for Chinese Taipei and hosts Iran to qualify from the other group.

As per the format, in the final round league the teams which had played each other in the quarter final rounds need not play again, which means that India need not play against the team that qualified from its group.

Effectively, India would be playing only two matches in the title round league and a win in both these matches would give them the title.
