Hingis shuts out Czink in 44 mins

Kolkata, Sep 18 (UNI) Swiss miss Martina Hingis cut through hardhitting Hungarian Melinda Czink in just 44 minutes in a lamb-taken-to-slaughter 6-1, 6-2 win in her lung-opener at Sunfeast Open here today.

In a declaration of her arrival to the fore, Hingis just decimated Czink, who had created a ripple here last year eliminating Sania Mirza in the second round.

In a facile ABC victory, Martina walloped off the first set in just 20 minutes that had three breaks on Czink serve. Martina began by breaking Czink in the opening game of the tie and then went on to break her in the fifth and seventh game to take the set 6-2.

If the highlight of the set was Martina's arrogance in her forehands and angled volleys, it was pathetic display from the Hungarian who made a several unforced error and never really got into the groove. Her efforts of setting up Martina with drop volleys left her in a lurch with each time her efforts ending up on the wrong side of the net.

Martina took the first set as a Czink block on a Martina volley fell wide. In the second set the narration went unaltered as Czink saved two deuces to register a game on her serve. But Martina took three games in a row thereafter that included a break to have the match in her bag. While Czink showed a semblance of resistance retaining the seventh game on her serve, the Martina tirade was too much to withstand.

She wilted and Martina took the next two games including a beak to take home the match.

The World No nine who made a full time return to the WTA tour have calimed from a 300 plus ranking to within top ten and showed signs of a vintage Martina, who was flowing like a river in spate.

After the match she addressed the crowd and acknowledged the support they had given to her.

''I am very happy to be here. The crowd is great. I am moved by their warmth,'' she said. She also said that she was happy to have won the way she has.

''I am happy at the way I have played. I was working on my volleys and returns and they have come good in this match.'' Indeed she was at her best today with deep penetrating returns leaving the Hungarian ranked 84 in the world crammed for making quality returns. She was actually too good with her returns and angled volleys that had no answer from her opponents and four aces and a negligible error per cent made life difficult for her opponent.
