Five new trains from January

Mumbai, Sep 18 (UNI) Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd (MRVC) Managing Director P C Sehgal today said the Corporation will introduce five new trains beginning from January next year.

The new trains will have three-phase technology. Which is now available in Germany, France, Switzerland and Japan.

A total of 157 rakes will be introduced in a phased manner forming a train of 12 rakes each. As a result, additional 550 trains will run daily easing congestion and saving time, he added.

The new rakes will be designed in association with National Institute of Design (NID) and fitted with improved traction motors, generating 20 per cent more horse power than the existing ones.

Hence, during the stopping process, the traction motor will work as generator and energy will be fed back to the system, he informed.

The rakes, which are environment-friendly, will consume less electricity and release less carbondioxide compared to the present rakes and are commuter-friendly too, he pointed out.

With this, about 30 per cent of energy will be saved per year.

Which is enquiralent to Rs 60 crore, said MVRC Chief Mechanical Engineer Prabat Sahai.

These rakes will have new features such as forced air ventilation system to pump fresh air, lift-up window with fixed polycarbonate lowers.

The second class rakes will have polycarbonate seats, with stainless steel frames, while the seats in the first class compartments will be fitted with PU cushions. Entry-exit doors are provided with three grab poles as against the one in the existing rakes. The rakes doors are made of powder-coated aluminium, while their windows will be polycarbonic.

A vital change will be the stainless steel trough floor and flooring to reduce corrosion and pneumatic springs for the comfort and safety of the passengers, added Mr Sahai.

Incorporated on July 12, 1999, MRVC's role is to implement rail infrastructure projects in suburban sections, raise funds for development of suburban railway sections and commercial development of railway lands. In addition, the Corporation is assigned the task to create an extra corridor both on the Central and Western railways with a view to segregate express trains from suburban ones.
