Farmers' condition dismal in UP: RLD

Basti, Sep 18 (UNI) Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) today alleged that the condition of farmers' in Uttar Pradesh is dismal.

Interestingly, RLD is the major alliance partner of the ruling Samajwadi Party-led UP government.

RLD chief Ajit Singh said farmers were living in penury and not getting due return of their produce. ''Their condition is continuously getting from bad to worse.'' ''At least one lakh farmers have committed suicide in the last 10 years and 50 per cent farmers are still reeling under debt,'' Mr Singh added.

''If farmers want a better and secure future, they will have to come forward,'' he asserted.

The RLD chief said farmers should also get assistance for setting up small scale industries.
