Cong candidate Gauddab wins KMC by-election

Kolhapur, Sep 18 (UNI) Congress candidate Kailas Gauddab today won the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation(KMC) by-election from the Vichare Mal 'prabhag' constituency for which polling was held yesterday.

Mr Gauddab defeated NCP candidate Mrs Rupali Terdalkar, who was supported by the Jan Surajya party, by a margin of 695 votes.

Gauddab polled 1,572 votes while Mrs Terdalkar received 877 votes.

Five other candidates contested the election, including NCP rebel who lost deposit, KMC election branch sources said.

The election was necessitated following cancellation of elected corporator Tukaram Terdalkar's election on the ground of caste certificate submitted by him, the sources added.
