CNG vehicles to be introduced in Agartala by October
Agartala, Sep 18 (UNI) Commuters in Tripura will experience pollution free travel as the Transport Department has decided to introduce Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles here next month.
''It is indeed a privilege for us as we are the first in the entire Eastern India to launch the green gas,'' transport officials said.
The Government would organise special workshops for the drivers and the conductors along with transport workers regarding the utilisation of CNG vehicles.
The officials said the construction of the CNG filling station on the city's outskirts is nearing completion and the one at Hapania is expected to function from March 2007.
The filling stations would be operated by Tripura Natural Gas Corporation Limited (TNGCL).
TNGCL Director(Commercial) T Premkumar told UNI that initially CNG run auto rickshaws will be pressed into service and later on the mini buses.
After the completion of the Hapania filling station, the heavier vehicles will be targeted, said Mr Kumar.
The transport official said CNG vehicles would be introduced at Sonamura and Teliamura in Tripura's West district and Udaipur in South district after launching the CNG run vehicles in the capital city.
''The introduction of green gases would lessen the burden of ever rising petrol and diesel prices,'' added the official.
