City Congress President condemns assault on city MP

Vijayawada, Sep 18 (UNI) City Congress President Somi Naidu today condemned the reported assault on city MP Lagadapati Rajagopal allegedly by TRS student wing at the Press club in Hyderabad earlier in the day.

Mr Naidu, who was to hold a press briefing this evening on the issue could not conduct it as the congress leaders along with the party activists after coming to know about the assault, staged a "Rasta Roko" stir on the busy Eluru road.

Mr Naidu appealed to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and Home Minister Jana Reddy to immediately arrest the alleged perpetrators of the assault on the MP.

He alleged that TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao came out of TDP when he was not given any key post in the previous TDP government and formed the TRS party, provoking regional sentiments.

Meanwhile, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) strongly criticised the TRS activists.

The Congress activists also burnt effigys of TRS leader K Chandrasekhar Rao at different places here, in protest against the assault on Rajagopal.
