Chappell to take 2-week break, rejoin team on October 6

Mumbai, Sept 18 (UNI) Team India coach Greg Chappell will miss the N K P Salve Challenger Trophy to be played at Chennai from October 1-4 as he would proceed on a break to his native Australia after the ongoing DLF Cup tri-series and would rejoin the squad on October 6 ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Niranjan Shah informed here today ''Chappell would go straight to Australia from Malaysia and will rejoin the team on October 6.'' When asked that in that case who would be appointed as the coach for the Indian seniors squad taking part in the Challenger Trophy, Mr Shah said ''This is a small matter and we would decide in a day or two.'' Mr Shah also said that the India seniors, India A and B teams which were supposed to be picked on October 25 would now be picked a day later on October 26 in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Mr Shah also informed that Barbados-born sports psychologisit Rudi Webster would start the first stint of his 36-day schedule with the Indian squad ahead of the high-profile ICC Champions Trophy tournament.

He said that Webster's services have been requested for by the team management and the board has accepted it. He would interact with the team before the Champions Trophy and in the West Indies before the World Cup which will begin on March 1, Mr Shah added.
