"Assassination" attempt on Somali leader kills one

NAIROBI, Sep 18 (Reuters) One person was killed and several wounded in an ''assassination'' attempt on Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf, Foreign Minister Ismail Hurre said.

''It was an assassination attempt on the president,'' he told Reuters, adding that one person was killed when a car exploded near the parliament building in the town of Baidoa.

One resident said legislators had been meeting to approve the new government.
