Unseeded Melzer beats Volandri to win Romanian Open
BUCHAREST, Sep 17 (Reuters) Unseeded Austrian Jurgen Melzer beat fifth seed Filippo Volandri of Italy 6-1 7-5 in the final of the Romanian Open today to win his first ATP title.
Melzer raced through the first set against the Italian, who seemed exhausted after his prolonged semi-final yesterday against last year's winner Florent Serra of France.
Volandri rallied in the second set but two mishit backhanders at 5-5 helped Melzer to make a decisive break and go on to win the match.
