Regional parties move towards unification

Imphal, Sep 17: Two regional parties of Manipur - the Manipur People's Party (MPP) and the Federal Party of Manipur - are inching towards unification.

The two parties had been striving for unification for the past few months to fight the Congress in the next Assembly elections, slated next year.

All the office-bearerss of the MPP had resigned en masse, party sources said adding L Borajao, president of the MPP, had also resigned so that the unification process could be expedited.

The frontal organisations of the MPP had also been dissolved.Though the president and other office-bearers had already resigned, they will still hold on to office until the unification process was completed. A breakaway group of the BJP had also merged with the MPP.
