Illegal drug trade drastically reduced in Mizoram
Aizawl, Sep 17 (UNI) Illegal drug trade here in Mizoram has reduced drastically due to the vigorus anti-drug crusade by various NGOs with the support of the state government.
According to the intellegence sources, since NGO's anti-drug service had widened its intelligence network across the state, many drug users had to leave away with their drug uses as they had no choice due to non-availability of the illegal drugs in the market.
As a result, the prices of drug had also increased by manyfolds, the sources added.
The officials also stated that an ounce of heroin which used to cost Rs 200 now cost as much as Rs 1000.
The Young Mizo Association (YMA), the largest NGO in the state, also claimed that though the crusade against drugs had not brought about total eradication of drugs in the state but the availability had drastically decreased during this one-and-a-half years.
'' We have regularly received tip-offs from our informers many of which have been forwarded to the law enforcers. Our co-operation with the police and Excise department is good as of now. We are seeking co-operation from the Central Customs department. Our anti-drug crusade is so far so good, '' a leader from the NGO pointed out.
