Haryana buses to have Global Positioning System

Chandigarh, Sep 17 (UNI) Haryana Roadways buses will soon be connected through Global Positioning System (GPS) via satellites on the pattern of International Airlines.

This was disclosed by the Haryana Transport Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala while addressing a meeting of the Commercial Officers of the Transport Department here today.

He said that with the GPS system,it would be easy to detect buses plying on their routes.

The Minister directed all General Managers to emphasize on the maintenance, renovation and hygienic conditions of bus depots. He said the department had allocated Rs 10 crore for this purpose in the last as well as the current financial years.

He said that bus depots should try to get an ISO 2000 certification. He emphasized the need for private participation in the development and maintenance of bus stands on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis.

He added that the department was trying to increase the frequency of CNG bus services in the National Capital Region.

He also said that new PCOs of modern designs would be installed in buses [;uomg of state roadways. The drivers and conductors would get a five per cent commission on the calls made from these PCOs.
