GPCC to take out rally tomorrow

Ahmedabad, Sep 17 (UNI) The Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) members will take out a morcha tomorrow to demonstrate against the failure of the state government in providing relief to the flood affected people, worsening law and order, situation, and corruption in the government and education.

The morcha will begin at 1000 hrs from CH-5 circle and end at Vidhansabha.

Leader of the Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly Arjun Modhwadia, in a release here yesterday, said the culpability of the state government was evident in its failure in tackling the floods and relief measures. Therefore, Chief Minister Narendra Modi has not only refused to extend the Monsoon Session of the Assembly beyond two days, but has also influenced the Speaker not to allow a motion under Rule 101 of the Rules of the Assembly, as proposed by the Congress Whip Balwantsinh Rajput, regarding a discussion on the recent floods in the state.

It could have been possible to discuss the issue for a day in case this motion had been allowed, he added.

He criticised the Chief Minister's decision for not holding discussions on the Gujarat floods and said both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha discussed the issue for four hours and even during the Zero Hour. Ironically, the discussion was not being allowed in the State Assembly under Rule 101.

Mr Modhwadia said the proposal for a ''No Confidence Motion'' against the Council of Ministers under Rule 106 has been allowed. If the discussion takes place on this motion, several issues could be discussed including law and order situation, chaos in electricity supply situation, corruption in higher education and professional courses, can also be debated, he said.
