Eight killed in two road accidents in TN

Madurai, Sep 17 (UNI) Eight people, including three members of a family, were killed and 13 injured in two gruesome road accidents in Southern Tamil Nadu early today.

Police said in the first incident an Omni van proceeding to Nagercoil from Chennai and a TNSTC bus coming in the opposite direction, collided at the Rangammal Oorani bridge near Thirumangalam town.

All four occupants of the van, except a one-and-a-half year old baby were killed in the mishap. While three of the victims, Babuji (55), his son Jain Kumar (32), and A Johny died on the spot, the other deceased, Alji Jainy (27) succumbed to injuries at a Corporate Hospital in the city where their baby, Jenny is being treated.

In another other mishap in the adjoining Virudhunager district, four- friends returning from a trip to the Courtrallam falls were killed when their vehicle collided with a jeep at the Meesalur cross near Amathur.

The deceased were identified as Seeni (28), Balachandran (50), S Natarajan (51) and G Ganesan.

Eight occupants of the jeep and four of the van were injured, of whom two have been referred to the Government Rajaji Hospital in the city, while the others are being treated at the GH at Virudhunagar.
