Divisional Commissioner begins inquiry into dumped foetuses

Patiala, Sep 17 (UNI) Patiala Divisional Commissioner Anjali Bhawara, probing the Patran incident, in which a large number of aborted foetuses were found from two wells in a private hospital, quizzed civil surgeons posted here during the last four years.

Official sources said here today the Commissioner had directed all Civil Surgeons to place before her all the records pertaining to the measures initiated by them during their tenure as Patiala civil surgeon to check female foeticide.

Those who were questioned by the Commissioner included Dr Amrit Lal Dhingra, Dr Inderjit Kaur Walia, Dr S P S Sohal, Dr Shiv Kumar Garg, Dr Hardev Singh and Dr Varinder Singh Mohi. T Dr Mohi had conducted the raids last month at Sahib Hospital in Patran that led to the discovery of two wells in which foetuses, presumed to be of females were found dumped. Dr Mohi was subsequently transfered to facilitate an independent inquiry.

The discovery of the foetuses had led to a public outrage and Chairperson National Womens Commission, Dr Girija Vyas visited Patran and termed it as an ''outrageous incident''.
