Water woes eased in Banaskantha district
Palanpur (Banaskantha), Sep 16: It was not less than a miracle for the villagers of Danta taluka facing severe water shortage when water began spouting out of water pumps.
Similar such incidents were reported in 12 talukas of Banaskantha district.
''I never imagined that water could gush out of pumps on its own,'' said Nashir Khan Pathan (27) postmaster of Pansa Village in Danta Taluka.
It was a memorable day for Rajubhai Parmar (23), a teacher and for several others who witnessed the ''miracle''.
Seven-year-old Kalu is elated at the fact that water flows out of the pump without pumping it. He says he had to pump very hard to pull water. ''It is fantastic to watch the water flowing through the pump,'' says Kalu.
Village Sarpanch Dalapatbhai Parmar said villages like Posina, Dhbavalivav, Jembera, Kanpura, Bhayala, Eisariya, Kangura, Bowal, Kathiya and others were staiched for months. The recent occurance has left everyone spell-bound.
Deputy Engineer R K Parmar of public health, water and sewerage board said, digging beyond 500 feet is like digging on a rocky surface.
Even those who had to travel two to three km away will no longer have to walk that stretch to get water. A 12-years-old girl said ''Our goats, cows and dogs will no longer remain thirsty.''
