Veerappan's wife to move SC challenging High Court order

Chennai, Sep 16 (UNI) Ms Muthulakshmi, wife of slain forest brigand Veerappan, will move the Supreme court, challenging the Madras High court order, dismissing her plea for a CBI probe into the encounter killing of her husband.

Addressing a press conference here today, she said a petition would be filed in the apex court soon.

Claiming that her husband was poisoned to death and was not gunned down as told by the Special Task Force (STF), she said she had produced a video cassette and the capsules of cyanide to the High Court when she filed a petition seeking a CBI probe.

But the court had dismissed the petition due to lack of evidence, she said.

To a question, Muthulakshmi said Veerappan had once sent a video cassette to J Jayalalithaa, just before the 2001 elections, seeking general amnesty. He had also said that he was prepared to surrender if he was tried separately. ''But till now the cassette was not made public,'' she alleged.

She said she would meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi along with the innocent tribal victims, who were subjected to alleged torture by the STF during the combing operations to nab the brigand.

''I had written several letters to the Chief Minister and I hope that he will give me an appointment to meet him to urge him to implement the Sadashiva Commission recommendations (that went into the alleged atrocities committed by the STF),'' she added.
