Uma's party to contest all Punjab seats
Chandigarh, Sep 16 (UNI) Bharatiya Janshakti Party supremo Uma Bharti today said her party would contest all assembly seats in Punjab on its own in the coming elections.
Addressing a Meet-the-Press programme here, Ms Bharti said the Janshakti Party would announce its nominees for all the seats in Punjab between November 15 and 30. Assembly elections are due in the state in February next.
Asserting that making big alliances was not her priority at present, she said the primary concern of her party was to get recognised as a national party by the Election Commission for which it would have to secure six per cent votes in at least four states.
Besides Punjab, the Janshakti Party would go it alone in the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Goa and its objective was to increase its vote percentage so that it could become a national party at the earliest and protect its election symbol.
Admitting that her party was yet to make its organisational set up in Punjab, she said the selected nominees would themselves work towards constituting cadres for the party in the run-up to the elections.
