Tripura govt stresses on development of science and technology

Agartala, Sep 16 (UNI) The Tripura government has stressed upon the need for development of science and technology in the state by utilising the natural resources and potential.

The decision was taken yesterday at the Ninth general body meeting of state council of science and technology. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, who is also the chairman of the council.

The meeting resolved that resource and potentiality of the state need to be utilised through science and technology in the 11th five year plan. For the purpose, it was decided to constitute a task force incorporating eminent scientists and technologists. The task force would be asisted by a number of core committees.

Speaking at the meeting Mr Sarkar acknowledged that there might be some weaknesses in the field of science and technology.

''The Council has done a number remarkable works,'' said the CM adding that the Council has prepared a database to strengthen the various activities of the council.

''The database would help to prepare and execute various projects in the forth coming 11th Five year plan,'' Mr Sarkar said.

''Science clubs and Vigyan sabhas will also be sensitised in order to popularise science amongst the people,'' he added.

The meeting was also attended by Badal Chaudhury, Minister for Science, Technology and Environment, Chief Secretary In-charge S.K Panda, Director of Regional Research Laboratory, Jorhat Dr. P.G Rao, Dr. K.C Bhattacharya, Director of North Eastern Space Application Centre, Shillong among others.
