Student's suicide sparks tension

Madikeri, Karnataka, Sep 16 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Kushalnagar in Kodagu district of Karnataka yesterday following the suicide of a student, allegedly due to the harassment meted out by the school authorities.

Police said Ravichandra, a tenth standard student in a convent, consumed poison at his house yesterday and died after being admitted to a hospital. His parents alleged that the school teachers behaved rudely with him and unable to bear the shame, he committed suicide.

People gathered before the convent in large numbers with the body and staged a protest. Police intervened and brought the situation under control. The crowd dispersed after the police assured them of registering a case and conducting inquiry.
