Pluto not planet as per Indian tradition system

Tirupati, Sept 16: Pluto is not a planet according to the Indian tradition, Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha (RSV) Vice-Chancellor Harekrishna Satapathy said today.

Addressing a press conference here, he said only the western countries and the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in the year 1930 had officially labelled Pluto as the ninth planet of the solar system.

He said the Indian traditional system never considered Pluto as a planet.

Now Pluto had been demoted to the status of 'dwarf planet' by IAU.

Referring to the Agama laboratory, which is under construction with the help of Tirumala-Tirupathi Devasthanam (TTD), he said the laboratory, once completed would undertake researches on the ritual practices based on scientific and empirical standards.
