Papal remarks: Cong asks Muslims to stay calm

New Delhi, Sept 16: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) today said the remarks of Pope Benedict XVI about Islam hurt the feelings of all Muslims throughout the world, and asked Muslims in the country to remain peaceful and vigilant against anti-social elements making use of the situation for their nefarious end.

AICC Secretary Anees Durrani, who is in charge of Minority department, said the Pope should have been more careful as love and respect of Prophet was inseparable part of Muslim faith.

"I appeal to my Muslim brethren to maintain peace and harmony."

Some mischievous elements in society are already trying hard to brand all Muslims as terrorists," he said, adding that "... while registering and expressing our feelings we must take care that anti-social elements may not use this occasion for their nefarious ends." He said all muslims should remain peaceful and should not allow anyone to create law and order problems by continuous vigil.

In this context, Mr Durrani said it would be better that all should send protest letter to the Pope to express their "badly-hurt" feelings.
