Orissa vigilance files chargesheet against former DGP

Bhubaneswar, Sep 16 (UNI) The Orissa vigilance today filed a chargesheet against former Director General of Police N C Padhi and former Additional Director General of Police P C Mishra besides several other police officers and constables in connection with corruption and irregularities in the recruitment of constables in the state.

The state Vigilance had registered five criminal cases in the year 2003 under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and the Indian Penal Code in connection with the recruitment of constables in the 6th Battalions, newly created 8th Battalion at Chhatrapur and India Reserve Battalion at Upper Kolab, Koraput.

On completion of investigation, the chargesheets in two cases were filed today in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Cuttack against Mr N C Padhi and Mr P C Mishra, who have retired from the service.

Chargesheets were also filed against Mr.Arabindanath Mitra,the then Commandant, Orissa State Armed Police (OSAP)6th Battalion, Cuttack and Prasanta Kumar Mohapatra, the then Commandant, 3rd Battalion, Koraput.

Official sources here said Bharat Chandra Parida, the then Honorary Secretary, Orissa Kabadi Association, Cuttack and Havildar Gopinath Pattnaik of Khurda Police District, 57 constables were also chargesheeted in the case.

The state government had already accorded sanction of prosecution against P.K.Mohapatra, the then Commandant, OSAP, 3rd Battalion, Koraput all the other Senior Officers having retired in the meantime.

Investigation in the remaining 3 vigilance cases are in the final stage and likely to be completed shortly, Vigilance Directorate sources said.
