Oppn. leaders frustrated, raking up non-issues: Karunanidhi
Chennai, Sep 16 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minsiter M Karunanidhi today said the AIADMK led opposition has taken up the Chikungunya issue as it had no other issue to protest against the government.
Ridiculing the opposition for staging a protest demonstration, Mr Karunanidhi, in a statement here, said the opposition was taking up a ''non-issue'' as it could not find any other issue to protest against the government.
The AIADMK and its allies, organised a state-wide agitation this evening to protest against the government's ''failure'' to control chikungunya and take the necessary preventive steps.
The AIADMK and its allies could not protest against the government for failing to distribute colour television sets, deterioration of law and order, stagnation of files or not fulfilling the poll promises, Mr Karunanidhi said and listed out the schemes and projects launched by the government within a short span of four months.
On Ms Jayalalithaa's demand for enacting the cable TV regulation Act, he said it was a pity that the former Chief Minister was not aware whether the Act could be brought in by the Centre or a state government.
Dismissing the charge that the free colour television scheme was launched with an eye on the coming local body elections, Mr Karunanidhi said it was only out of frustration. If the TVs were not given, the same opposition would have accused the government of failing to fulfill the promise.
Mr Karunanidhi also had a dig at Ms Jayalalithaa for not garlanding the statue of former Chief Minister C N Annadurai on the occasion of his 98th birth anniversary yesterday.
