Minister launches free Colour TV scheme for poor
Tiruchirapalli, Sep 16 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Transport Minister K N Nehru today formally launched the free Colour Television scheme, fulfilling one of the major poll promises of the ruling DMK here.
Handing over the TV sets to over 100 residents of Periyar Memorial Samathuvapuram (a residential colony, where people of all religions and castes reside) in Pannappatti village in Manapparai Union near here, Mr Nehru said the ruling DMK had fulfilled most of the election promises within a short period of assuming office in the state.
Mr Nehru said over 600 landless agricultural labourers in the district would be given two acres of free land tomorrow.
Despite spreading false propaganda by some vested interests, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had fulfilled his election promises, he said. The Government had waived all cooperative loans of the farmers, which was not done by any state government in the country, he added.
He said on the request of farmers, the Tiruchirapalli District Administration had opened five Direct Purchase Centres to procure paddy from.
Later, he distributed TV sets to the residents of Samathuvapuram situated at Inamkulathur, Navalpattu, Thozhurpatti, Kannanur and Kallakkudi in the district.
Nearly 600 CTV's were distributed to the residents of six Samathuvapurams across the district.
