Home Stay concept, a hit in culture-rich Mysore

Mysore, Sep 16: The heritage city of Mysore, besides being well known the world over for its magnificent palaces, numerous tourist spots and distinct culture, is also renowned for its hospitality -- a trait that would be personified by the 'Home Stay' option offered to visitors during the coming Dasara festivities.

The Home Stay programme of the Tourism Department and Dasara Tourism Sub-Committee had received good response. Skyway International Travels was the nodal agency for the scheme.

Sub-Committee President and Conservator of Forests G N Sreekantaiah took mediapersons to a few residents of the city who have come forward to host tourists.

He said the organisers were doing everything needed to popularise the concept, famous in Goa, as it would help in bridging the cultural gap between people of different states.

Though the concept was introduced here during last Dasara, it took some time to kick off. Apart from the 30 households that had registered last year, 20 more residents have applied this year.

The Home Stay concept would not be limited to the Dasara season, but would be a continuous process as it would also ease the problem of visitors not finding enough hotel rooms in the city, he said.
