Gaganjit rape case hearing adjourned till Sep 18

Chandigarh, Sep 16 (UNI) A Local Court today adjourned the hearing of the bail plea of senior Akali legislator Gaganjit Singh in the alleged rape case against him till September 18.

The hearing was adjourned following the plea of the public prosecutor against the grant of bail to the accused as, Additional Sessions Judge R S Baswana here said, he had not yet received a police investigation report regarding the case.

Gaganjit Singh, son of Tamil Nadu Governor and former Punjab Chief Minister Surjit Singh Barnala, was arrested by Chandigarh Police on August 12 after a 55-year-old maid working in his apartment alleged that he had raped her.

The MLA from Dhuri in Sangrur district is presently in judicial custody and lodged in Burail Central jail here.
