Former collector convicted on charges of corruption

Jodhpur, Sep 16 (UNI) A court here has awarded three-and-a-half year rigorous imprisonment to a former collector of Sirohi district in Rajasthan for misusing his powers causing financial loss to the state government.

The anti-corruption court handed out the sentence to former collector G S Narwani yesterday on charges that he misused his powers by awarding the government land to a co-accused Bhallaram, and altering the land use to housing purpose. Bhallaram also got three-and-a-half year imprisonment under different sections of the IPC.

According to the report filed at the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Narwani was posted as the district collector of Sirohi. In September, 1999, he along with Bhallaram in an underhand deal allotted the government land under Revdhar tehsil in Aasab village to the latter, showing that the land was under his permanent possession. He was also accused of changing the land use to housing purpose causing a loss of Rs 1.58 lakh to the state exchequer.
