DMK convenes meeting of DPA allies
Chennai, Sep 16 (UNI) The ruling DMK has convened the meeting of the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) on September 20 and the DMK District Secretaries meet the next day to discuss the October 11 by-election to Madurai central assembly constituency and the ensuing local body elections.
DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, in a statement here, said the DPA meeting would be held at the party headquarters 'Anna Arivalayam' at 1600 hrs and requested the leaders of the alliance parties to attend the meeting.
In another statement, DMK general secretary and state Finance Minsiter K Anbazhagan said the district secretaries meeting would be held on September 21, at the party headquarters at 1000 hrs.
He said the meeting has been convened to discuss the local body elections.
Meanwhile, answering a question whether the DMK and its allies were prepared for the by-election and local body elections, Mr Karunanidhi said the DPA would discuss the issue on September 20 and after taking into confidence, the DMK district secretaries, the next day, DMK and its allies would commence election work.
The by-election to Madurai Central assembly constituency, held by the DMK, was necessitated following death of its senior leader and Hindu Religious and Endowment Minister P T R Palanivel Rajan.
