Despite Delhi Govt notification, MCD sealing drive continues

New Delhi, Sep 16 (UNI) The sealing operation by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi gathered momentum today with the corporation sealing various commercial establishments in residential areas of the city on expiry of the deadline set by the Supreme Court.

The demolitions have continued despite the Delhi government yesterday notifying nearly 2200 roads/streets in the capital as either commercial or mixed land use streets, In compliance with the order of the Supreme Court, the MCD today sealed 201 properties for misuse which include 58 in Karol Bagh zone, 53 in Rohini Zone, 24 in Shadara (South) zone, 15 in West zone, 14 in Shahdara (north) zone, four in Central zone, 15 in City zone, seven in Civil Lines, six in South and five in Najafgarh zone.

In addition, 25 properties were sealed for unauthorised construction in compliance with the order of the High Court. These comprised 7 in Rohini, 3 in South, 12 in Shahdara (North) and 3 in West Zone.

In South Zone, properties at Vasant Vihar and Greater Kailash-I (Market) were sealed for misuse while in Karol Bagh Zone, properties at Patel Road and Faiz Road were sealed for misuse.

In City Zone, shops were sealed at Sadar Thana Road and New Darya Ganj while in Central Zone four properties were sealed at Siri Fort Road in which one property bearing No.2 of an electronic channel was sealed.

The public heavily resisted sealing the properties at Siri Fort Road. Demolition action was carried out in three properties in New Friends Colony. The sealing operation by the MCD comes despite the Delhi government notification yesterday declaring nearly 2200 roads in Delhi as commercial/mixed use areas.

This is because while as per the notification, nearly 2,200 roads in the not-so-affluent areas categorised as C, D, E, F and G would not face the MCD axe, those in the A and B category colonies, the so-called posh colonies do not fall under its purview, thus rendering them liable for sealing.

Also, not coming uncer the purview of the notification were shops falling under the negative list in the amended Master Plan.

Further, banquet halls are also being sealed as the amended Master Plan does not allow Banquet halls in residential areas.

Commercial units of over 40,000 traders who submitted affidavits in the Supreme court earlier saying they would shift their shops on their own, would also be sealed.
