Computerised power billing in the offing for J

Jammu, Sep 16: Carrying forward the momentum of power sector reforms, the Power ministry has introduced computerized billing system in Jammu and Kashmir.

Power Minister Nawang Rizgin Jora while launching the scheme yesterday said the initiative aimed at promoting efficiency and transparency in the handling of revenue records will commence at the beginning of the next financial year.

Accentuating the objective of the exercise the minister further underlined the need to achieve consumer satisfaction and improvement in the quality of service rendered.

Divulging the details, Mr Jora said a user friendly software has been developed for the purpose. In the initial phase consumers residing in the B/D block of Gandhi Nagar locality will be indexed in the meanwhile conversion of data from manual to computerised mode is under progress, he added.

Mr Jora further informed that all consumers will be indexed with respect to distribution of transformers, 11 KV feeder, sub-division, division circle, Computerized bill generation would be on monthly basis.

Allaying apprehensions of major deviations from usual billing, a provisional warning alarm has been devised to apprise the consumer to keep a tab on their consumption or contact nearest PDD office, the minister said.

Mr Jora said the department intends to interconnect all sub-divisions and divisions with each other and the central hub to catalyse the exchange and sharing of data among themselves. On-line billing and payment option would be introduced besides the drop box.
