Centre's nod for Buddha museum

Patna, Sep 16 (UNI) The Centre has asked Bihar Government to send a formal proposal seeking central assistance for setting up a Museum at Vaishali to preserve the holy relics of Lord Buddha.

In a letter to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni recalled a representation from several prominent people of Vaishali emphasising on preservation of relics of Lord Buddha discovered during an excavation by the Archeological Survey of India in 1958. This is to be followed by a proposal from the state government asking for central funds to execute the museum project at Vaishali.

''Funds are available to undertake this project,'' Ms Soni confirmed and suggested Mr Kumar to ''give necessary instructions to the officials concerned to put up this proposal formally for central assistance''.
