Centre urged to limit rubber imports

Kochi, Sep 16 (UNI) In view of the falling prices of natural rubber, the Central and Kerala governments have been urged to take steps to keep the price of the commodity steady.

Mr G Sughunan, Chairman, Kerala State Cooperatives Marketing Societies Association, today urged the Union government to limit the import of rubber, which had driven down the price of natural rubber from Rs 100 per kg to Rs 70 per kg.

''The Central Government should not succumb to the pressure from the tyre lobby to allow free imports,'' he said in a statement here.
