BJP, SAD leaders lodge police complaint for CM's arrest
Ludhiana, Sep 16 (UNI) Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) general secretary Sukhbir Singh Badal today lodged a complaint against Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and demanded his immediate arrest under the Prevention of Corruption Act in connection with the multi-crore Ludhiana City Centre scam.
The two leaders, accompanied by their respective party activists, went to the Sarabha Nagar police station and lodged the complaint demanding the Capt Singh's arrest under sections 7, 10, 11, 13(1) and 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act and sections 409, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120B of IPC which was accepted by the local police.
Besides the chief minister, the two leaders also demanded the arrest of Punjab Local Bodies Minister Ch Jagjit Singh, the owners of 'Today Homes' and others in the complaint.
The opposition Akali-BJP MLAs had yesterday created bedlam in the state assembly and halted the proceedings, demanding a CBI probe into the scam. They had been suspended for the rest of the session.
The Chief Minister had already ordered a Vigilance inquiry into the matter and also disbanded teh Ludhiana Improvement Trust following news reports that crores of rupees were embezzled and exchanged hands illegally in the name of the mega project, the largest of its kind in the country, causing a great loss to the state revenue department.
'Today Homes' had been granted the task of building the City Centre by the Ludhiana Improvement Trust.
