Bhubaneswar, Sep 16 (UNI) Biju Janata Dal(BJD) MP from flood hit Jagatsinghpur Brahmananda Panda has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to release Rs.3000 crore Central assistance to overcome the situation arising out of series of floods that battered Orissa badly in July and August.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, copies of which were released to the press here yesterday, Mr Panda said the devastating flood has severely affected the life of the people of his constituency. He said the people in Tirtol, Nimapara, Govindpur, Ersama Assembly constituencies were still in distress so also the people of other districts affected by the flood.
The BJD MP said millions of people whose houses were damaged and submerged in the flood water were living in camps, temple, high land, mosque and school premises. The central observers, he said, did not visit the interior parts of severely affected areas and their observation was an eye wash and hurt the sentiments of the people of Orissa.
Mr Panda said the farmers have lost everything and were now praying the almighty for their survival adding that they should be adequately compensated by the Centre to overcome their sufferings.
