BJD MP demands Rs 3000 crore flood assistance for Orissa
Bhubaneswar, Sep 16 (UNI) Biju Janata Dal(BJD) MP Brahmananda Panda has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to release Rs 3000 crore Central assistance, to overcome the situation arising out of series of floods that battered Orissa in July and August.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, copies of which were released to the press here yesterday, Mr Panda said the devastating flood had severely affected the people in the state particularly in Tirtol, Nimapara, Govindpur, Ersama Assembly constituencies.
The BJD MP said millions of people whose houses were damaged and submerged in the flood water were living in camps, temple, high land, mosque and school premises.
The central observers did not visit the interior areas and their observation was an eye wash, he said, adding the farmers who have lost everything should be adequately compensated by the Centre to overcome their sufferings.
