APCC to protect farmers interest
Hyderabad, Sep 16 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee will protect the interests of farmers in the state.
Addressing a press conference at party headquarters Gandhi Bhavan here, APCC President K Keshava Reddy said the party would constitute committees in the mandal-level to monitor the power situation to ensure uninterrupted supply to the farmers for seven hours.
He said power supply to the agricultural operations was affected for three days due to a trip in power grid and this had created problems for the farmers.
Stating that he would meet the District Congresss Presidents on September 23 for constituting the committees, he asked the party workers to alert the government on the sale of spurious seeds, fertilisers and pesticides by dealers.
He urged the Government to recruit temporary helpers to repair transformers within 48 hours and prior announcement on timings of supply for farm operations in the villages.
He said the government was supplying power for agriculture for seven hours by purchasing electricity from the power trading companies to protect farmers and standing crops.
It was unfortunate that the opposition Telugu Desam Party was politicising the few days of power crisis instead of suggesting ways to solve the problems, he added.
