Protest against President at an independence day parade in Mexico
MEXICO CITY, Sep 16: Scores of Mexican leftist demonstrators claiming election fraud protested against President Vicente Fox at an independence day military parade in the center of the capital today.
Up to 200 supporters of losing candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador waved posters that read ''Fox, traitor to democracy,'' in the center of the Zocalo square as the president reviewed a march of troops and military hardware.
Another, smaller group of protesters shouted ''Obrador, brador,'' as the parade rolled along the main Reforma avenue.
The left says Fox took part in a fraud to cheat anti-poverty campaigner Lopez Obrador of the presidency in the close July 2 election.
Mexico's top election court rejected the fraud claims and named conservative Fox's former energy minister, Felipe Calderon, president-elect on Sept. 5. He won the election by only 234,000 votes out of 41 million.
