Western Command pays homage to martyrs on 59th anniversary
Chandigarh, Sep 15 (UNI) Paying homage to martyrs on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of the Raising Day of the Western Command, Lt Gen Daljeet Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief and other senior officers of the Western Command laid wreaths at 'Veer Smriti', the Command War Memorial at Chandimandir near here today.
In his order of the day, Lt Gen Singh paid tributes to the sacrifices of the veterans and assured that the path shown by them shall be the guiding force in all future ventures taken up by the Command.
He also reaffirmed the Army's commitment in providing all possible help to the veterans. The solemn wreath laying ceremony was attended by a large number of Army officers, JCOs and jawans.
To mark the occasion, a Barakhana for the Army personnel and civilian staff of the Command was also organised in addition to the Band Concert, which was held at the Shivalik Officers Institure.
The Raising Day celebrations concluded with a social get-together with the families of the officers.
Since the inception of the Western Command, 11 Army Commanders, including General J J Singh, the present Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) have been apppointed as COAS. The other Army Commanders who were appointed as COAS include Gen K M Cariappa, Gen S M Shrinagesh, Gen K S Thimayya, Gen P N Thapar, Gen SHFJ Manekshaw, Gen T N Raina, Gen K V Krishana Rao, Gen K Sunderji, Gen S F Rodrigues and Gen B C Joshi.
