Water to Vamsadhara canal released
Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, Sep 15 (UNI) To the delight of farmers water was released from the 15th km of the main canal of the Vamsadhara project today.
Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao and District in-charge Minister Mareppa released the water as part of Jalayagnam, the mammoth irrigation initiative taken up by the Rajasekhara Reddy government.
About 10,000 acres of land would be brought under irrigation in Sarubujjili, L N Peta, Burja and Amudalavalasa mandals in this drought-prone district.
Water would be made available under Vamsadhara project phase one, stage two from the regulator in Mallikarjunapuram in L N Pet mandal upto Purushothamapuram through this canal.
Speaking on the occasion, Dharmana Prasada Rao said the government was completing all the ongoing irrigation projects on a war footing to satisfy the irrigation needs of the farmers.
