TN Govt launches financial aid scheme for pregnant women

Chennai, Sep 15: The Tamil Nadu Government today launched financial assistance scheme for poor women during maternity.

The government had earmarked Rs 100 crore for the 'Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy Financial Aid Scheme' for the current year.

The assistance would be extended to poor women over 19 years of age for the birth of the first two children. They would receive Rs 1,000 each from the seventh month of pregnancy.

A total of Rs 6,000 would be given to each pregnant woman in three instalments before the delivery and three after childbirth.

The annual family income of beneficiaries should be below Rs 12,000 in order to get the assistance, according to an official release here.
