Snow and rain in HP
Shimla, Sep 15 (UNI) The high altitude areas of Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh were receiving fresh spell of snowfall while heavy to moderate rains lashed isolated places in the state during the last 24 hours, the met office said today.
The Kailesh Parvat at 1700 feet, Saach Pass at 14,500 feet and other high altitude peaks in Chamba district were experiencing snowfall while heavy rains lashed several areas of the state today, plummeting day and night temperatures.
However, the twin tribal districts of Kinnuar and Lahaul-Spiti continued to experience dry weather and received no snowfall and rain till 0830 hrs, the met office said.
Shimla and other adjoining areas were also lashed by moderate to heavy rains in the latter half of the day today.
Vehicular traffic near Shogi, 16 kms from here, came to a standstill for a half an hour after heavy downpour followed by hailstorm and thundershowers forced drivers to park their vehicles on the roadside.
The met office said Berthin in Bilaspur and Bhuntar in Kullu district recorded 19.4 and 8.2 mm rains respectively, while Bhang Manali and Dhundi, both in Kullu district, received 6.2 and four mm of rain.
The day began with a clear sky over Shimla before being covered by clouds and followed by light showers in the afternoon, plummeting night and day temperatures, it said.
The state capital recorded a day temperature of 20.5 degrees Celsius and night temperature of 13.8, while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded night temperatures of 18.7 and 16.3 degrees Celsius.
The met office has predicted rain or thundershowers at few places in the state during the next 24 hours.
