Security beefed up in Mysore for Dasara
Mysore, Sep 15 (UNI) Special security steps have been taken by the police department for the coming Dasara festivities here from September 23 to October two, with additional forces being deployed from other parts of the State.
Addressing mediapersons here, city Police Commissioner Praveen Sood said that in view of the nationwide terror threat, security had been beefed up during the festive season, with additional 32 KSRP platoons and 12 city Armed Reserve Police platoons. Over 1,500 police personnel and another 250 traffic police would be on duty.
The personnel would be deployed at vantage points like Mysore Palace and Chamundi hills. Besides, bomb detection and disposal squads would be pressed into service.
The two-km Dasara procession on the concluding day would begin at 1315 hrs, with Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy flagging it off after performing pooja to the Nandi Dwaja in front of the Mysore Palace.
In the evening, a colourful torch light parade would be held at Bannimantap grounds, where Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi would receive the guard of honour. The parade would have as its theme the Survana Karnataka celebrations, he said.
Mr Sood said a grand mass band programme of the police would be held on September 26 in front of the illuminated palace, in which nearly 40 police bands from all over the State, both English and Kannada, would participate.
