Rs 3100 cr plan approved for Guwahati renovation

Guwahati, Sep 15 (UNI) A City Development Plan (CDP) of Rs 3100 crore for Guwahati has been approved by the Central government, making it among the handful of cities, whose plan had been passed in the shortest duration.

Informing this at a press meet here today, Guwahati Development Department (GDD) Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said the CDP had been prepared keeping in view the needs of the city 25 years hence.

The CDP had been submitted under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM), a flagship programme of the UPA government at the Centre, under which 63 select cities of the country would be renovated.

The Plan had been prepared by Infrastructure Development Corporation of Asom Limited, a joint venture of Guwahati Municipal Development Authority and Mumbai-based Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Service Limited.

Mr Sharma clarified that the money would be sanctioned according to individual projects submitted and approved.

'' A total of Rs 3100 crore will be allowed for the city on the basis of individual projects the state government submits, '' he said.

The GDD Minister informed that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for solid waste management of the city of Rs 35 crore had been submitted to the Centre as the first project under the CDP.

He said, '' DPR for water supply and sewage system will be sent next. We are asking for a Rs 1,077 crore water supply project and expect to attract the best companies. '' Mr Sharma said the state would submit projects for various infrastructure development of the city, including transportation, drainage and Mass Rapid Transport Service.

He further informed that the draft master plan for Guwahati development would be released by the end of the month and the final master plan announced in three months.
