Power demand comes down in AP: Minister

Hyderabad, Sep 15 (UNI) Andhra Praesh Information and Public Relations and Energy Minister Mohd Ali Shabbir today said the power demand has reduced to 7,358 MW from 8,300 MW in the state.

Talking to reporters here, Mr Shabbir said the demand for power, which increased to 8,300 MW last week, had come down to 7,358 MW yesterday following heavy rains in several parts of the state.

Stating that the government was purchasing power from other states at a cost of Rs 11.2 crore a day, the minister said power would be supplied to all farmers for seven hours without any interruption during the kharif season.

The power generation at Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar power houses was limited to a maximum of 20 MU and seven MU per day respectively, in order to coordinate irriagation and power requirements as well as for water conservation and economy, he added.
