Notices to ultrasound centres for violating PNDT Act
Chandigarh, Sep 15 (UNI) The Haryana Health Department have issued show cause notices to four ultrasound centres in Kaithal for violating the provisions of the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique (PNDT) Act.
Also, a reward of Rs 10,000 has been announced for those who would inform about sex detection of a foetus at any ultrasound centre and reward of an equal amount would also be given to the decoy patients, an official spokesman said.
In case any of the four ultrasound centres did not give satisfactory reply within ten days, its registration would be suspended and ultrasound machine would be sealed, he added.
The doctors of these centres included Dr Anand Goel of Anand Ultrasound Centre, Dr Sanjay Bansal of Sanjay Ultrasound Centre, Dr S K Singla of Apollo Diagnostic Centre and Dr Nalin Sharma of Modern Diagnostic Centre, the spokesman said.
He said it was found that many of such centres did not maintain records mandatory for conducting ultrasonography under the PNDT Act. Also, they had conducted ultrasonography on pregnant women having pregnancy between 10-24 weeks and three of these centres had such patients which already had one or two female children.
Therefore, it was presumed that these centres conducted sex determination tests, he added.
