Nine illegal admissions in medical colleges found
Guwahati, Sep 15 (UNI) With the detection of nine more 'Munna bhais', who had secured admission in medical colleges under the Central pool through forged documents, the total number of fake admissions in Asom medical colleges has gone up to 29.
Asom Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma today said the nine new cases of illegal admissions in the state medical colleges of the state will be announced within a week.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Sharma said the nine cases have been sent to Union Health ministry for verification.
He said, '' The Centre has confirmed that all the nine students are illegal. We will make a formal announcement with the names next week.'' He informed that all the nine were MBBS students, spreading across the three government medical colleges in the state, over a period of four years.
He said one of the students was in the final year and would pass out as doctor within three months.
Earlier, the state Health ministry had detected 13 illegal admissions and the CID had found seven such cases. In all the cases, it was confirmed that the students had forged signatures for admission through the Central government quota.
Kingpin of the entire operation Bubul Ali, a clerk in a government department, had recently been arrested.
Mr Sharma informed that 14 seats in the first year had fallen vacant, which would be filled by September 30.
He said fake admissions had been detected in medical colleges in the state for over five years by the department now.
''These students are already doctors and the state government cannot hope to pursue these cases now,'' he added.
