Nikkei opens lower on Wall Street, Canon falls

Tokyo, Sep 15: The Nikkei average fell 0.44 percent at the open on Friday after a fall on Wall Street prompted investors to sell Canon Inc., Sony Corp. and other blue-chip shares.

As of 0001 GMT, the Nikkei was down 70.10 points at 15,872.29, retreating after a 1.22 percent gain in the previous session. The broader TOPIX index was 0.28 percent lower at 1,593.64.
