Jute Technology Mission to be launched soon

Kolkata, Sept 15: The Jute Technology Mission involving a Rs 260 crore corpus for developing the jute sector has already got the cabinet approval and would be formally launched next month, Jute Commissioner S Majumdar said today.

Of the total corpus amount Rs 100 crore has been earmarked as capital for organised jute production, Rs 60 crore for development of jute parks and Rs 100 crore kept for training programmes, Majumdar said.

He was speaking at a programme to inaugurate technical consultancy clinic for SMEs on jute and jute diversified products here.

He said the 11th five year plan has also emphasised on several schemes for women in the jute industry.

State's Cottage and Small Scale Industry and Tourism Minister Manabendra Mukherjee said the state government has planned to set up jute parks in Murhsidabad and Coochbehar districts.

These would provide all sorts of logistics in research and development of the SMEs in this sector, besides showcasing the diversified products.
